Ego.  Merriam-Webster defines it as "the self, especially as contrasted with another self or the world."  All writing is an act of ego.  The self on the page.

I have sought my ego in telling my story.  I have been trying to build my confidence for over a year to the point that I can get past my own self telling me that nobody cares what you have to say.  That well might be the case.  One's story is truly that...just one's story.  If nobody ever reads this, it would have still been worth it.  I have enjoyed every step of this journey immensely and I am closer to knowing my grandfather that I had ever thought possible.
